A painting project starts with the surface.

A new color can change a room, but preparation affects how that color looks once it is on the wall. Show us the surfaces you want painted, their current condition and any repairs you have noticed. Include both close photos and a view of the whole room.

Petra offers residential interior painting for walls and ceilings in the Iowa City Corridor. You can ask for painting on its own or as part of a drywall installation, repair or finishing project. The scope is based on the room you have and the result you want.

Agree on what happens before the paint.

Existing holes, damaged joints, loose material or uneven areas need to be discussed before coating starts. Some rooms need limited preparation; others need drywall repairs or a more extensive finishing stage. Those steps should be visible in the proposal.

Room protection matters too. Explain what furniture stays, which areas must remain usable and how the room can be accessed. Agree on responsibilities for moving items, protecting floors and fixtures, and cleanup at the end.

Look at color and sheen in your own room.

Light changes how a color appears. A sample viewed beside the floor, trim and furniture gives a more useful starting point than a small color on a screen. Consider the room at the times of day you normally use it.

The chosen sheen affects both appearance and how clearly surface variations show. Discuss the product, color, sheen and surfaces before work begins. If walls, ceilings or trim need different treatments, list them separately; doors, trim and other additional surfaces are confirmed individually.

Ask for a clear painting scope.

Tell us whether you want one room or several, whether the home is occupied and whether drywall work is already planned. Approximate dimensions and ceiling heights help explain the size and access, but a final scope may need an on-site review.

The estimate should explain what preparation and coating work is included. Coverage depends on the existing surface and the selected finish, so the specification should be agreed rather than assumed.

  • Rooms and wall/ceiling surfaces included
  • Drywall repairs and preparation
  • Primer and paint specification, colors and sheens
  • Access, room protection and timing
  • Cleanup and a final walkthrough

Questions worth asking.

Can I hire Petra just to paint a room?

Yes. Interior painting can be a standalone project; you do not need to add a custom ceiling or drywall installation.

Can painting follow a drywall repair?

Yes. Describe both parts of the job so repair, finishing, priming and painting can be coordinated in the scope.

Do you offer exterior or cabinet painting?

This page covers interior walls and ceilings. Exterior painting and cabinet refinishing are not part of the services advertised here.

Keep planning.
